Like most municipal police departments, training doesn't end when an officer graduates from the police academy. All Hatfield police officers must participate in numerous annual recertifications, both as required by law and mandated by department policy. Here, the officers are taking part in firearms qualification. They must obtain at least the minimum acceptable score to demonstrate proficiency with a firearm or they cannot continue working. Although the law only requires this type of recertification once a year, the Hatfield training officer believes it is an important safety issue and therefore requires it twice a year.
